Position: Horticulturist

Roles & Obligations:
Seeking an experienced and meticulous horticulturist with at least 2 years of formal education or training in horticulture and 2 years of hands-on experience in gardening or landscape upkeep, ideally within a public or private setting. The ideal candidate should be a collaborative individual, adaptable, with a strong affinity for horticulture and design. Proficiency in container gardening is essential, alongside a valid driving license.
Primary Tasks Include:
Assist in the creation, upkeep, and renewal of professional seasonal displays, garden plots, and natural areas. The candidate should be capable of performing a comprehensive array of horticultural functions and tasks with minimal direction, including:
- Setting up and maintaining seasonal displays and garden areas, featuring a variety of annuals, tropicals, perennials, bushes, grasses, and bulbs.
- Expertise in manual watering, fertilizing, dead-heading, and overseeing the health of plant arrangements as needed.
- Conducting meticulous, seasonal landscaping tasks customary in the gardening profession, employing established methods and techniques such as pruning of various climbers and shrubs, weeding, clearing, and mulching.
- Managing and operating gardening tools and machinery like weed trimmers, leaf blowers, and mowers.
- A familiarity with indigenous plants, meadow gardening, and flower arrangement is preferred.
- Multilingual abilities are a plus.
Responsibilities also cover a broad spectrum of Advanced Gardening Practices and
Responsibilities, not limited to:
- Planting and relocating of woody and herbaceous species
- Pruning and eagerness to learn correct pruning methods
- Precise Edging of Garden Plots
- Thorough grooming of vegetation
- Garden bed weeding
- Applying mulch to garden plots
- Upkeep and maintenance of tools, machinery, and vehicles
- Hauling materials & waste
- Keeping records of client properties and daily tasks executed
- Leading a team (1-3 members)
- Collaboration with fellow gardeners
- Effective communication with team members and clients
- Utilization of a smartphone or data-enabled device for communication and reports
Qualifications & Expertise:
- Hands-on experience in horticulture
- Familiarity with different plant species
- Competence in safely handling machinery (leaf blower, chainsaw, leaf shredder)
- Valid driver’s license & clean driving history
- Ability to carry up to 50 pounds
- Preparedness to work outdoors under various weather conditions
- Capability to thrive in a high-paced setting
- Flexibility to work additional hours or weekends when necessary
Work Schedule:
Full-Time, Seasonal/Hourly/ Annually Recurring
March 1- December 31
Monday - Friday, with optional Saturdays
