Key Responsibilities:
- Confirm that finished items match the detailed requirements by using tools such as squares, rulers, and measuring tapes.
- Adjust and assemble components based on detailed instructions, utilizing tools like jacks, turnbuckles, wedges, drift pins, pry bars, and hammers.
- Transport components into the correct position, either by hand or with the aid of lifting equipment.
- Accurately place, align, assemble, and join parts to build complete assemblies or subsections, adhering to design plans and precise instructions, and employing aids such as jigs, welding tools, and manual instruments.
- Review engineering schematics and plans to figure out material needs and the order of operations.
- Operate and adjust machines used in metal fabrication, such as brakes, rolls, shears, cutting torches, grinders, and drill presses, to modify, cut, shape, punch, drill, or join metal parts.
- Temporarily join parts together by tack welding.
- Plan out and inspect metal stock or pieces to be worked on to confirm compliance with requirements.
- Handle and transport materials and finished products using large lifting devices.
- Smooth out high spots and create bevels using tools like files, handheld grinders, and cutting torches.
- Mark reference points on base surfaces or guide pieces and transfer these marks to the components being worked on, using measuring tools, squares, chalk, and soapstone.
- Prepare guide blocks, jigs, and fixtures for use in the fabrication process.
- Secure or adjust support structures, clamps, ropes, or bolts to position parts for joining or welding.
- Identify and mark lines on workpieces for bending and cutting, taking into account material thickness, machine and welding shrinkage, and other factors related to the components.
